The Charmamore guide
How Italian charm bracelets work
An Italian charm bracelet is a row of small flat links held together by tiny springs inside each one. Every link can be swapped for a charm link, so your bracelet changes as your life does. Here’s everything you need to get started.
1. Find your size
Wrap a strip of paper or a soft tape measure around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. Note the length, then add about 1 cm so the bracelet can move a little. Use the chart below to see how many links you need. Each link is 9 mm wide.
| Wrist size | Bracelet length | Links needed |
|---|---|---|
| 14 to 15 cm | 15 to 16 cm | 17 to 18 |
| 15 to 16 cm | 16 to 17 cm | 18 to 19 |
| 16 to 17 cm | 17 to 18 cm | 19 to 20 |
| 17 to 18 cm | 18 to 19 cm | 20 to 21 |
| 18 to 19 cm | 19 to 20 cm | 21 to 22 |
Most people are happy with 18 to 20 links. If you’re between sizes, go one link bigger. You can always remove a link later.
2. Choose your base bracelet
Your base bracelet comes with plain links, so it looks finished straight away. Choose silver, gold or two tone. Silver and gold charms can be mixed on any base.
3. Add your charms
- Hold the bracelet with both hands and bend it gently to open the links you want to change.
- Push the two links apart at an angle and slide the plain link out.
- Slide your charm link in at the same angle, then straighten the bracelet so it clicks closed.
An opening tool makes this even easier, especially for long nails. You’ll find one in accessories.
4. Keep adding to your story
Add a charm for a birthday, a new pet, a trip or a win. Rearrange them for a new look whenever you like.
Caring for your bracelet
- Take it off before swimming, showering or the gym.
- Put on perfume and lotion first, then your bracelet.
- Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and store it in its box.
